What a fantastic website. My Grandma Use to live in Derwent Tower on the 21st floor back in around 1975-77. I can always remember going to visit her and loved it. I use to get a beano comic from what io believe is now called Derwent news just at the bottom of the tower. All my family are geordies, Mum, Dad, And my two brothers but sadly they moved into the midlands when i was born in the 70's. I would have loved to live in the north east. The people and the places are fantastic. Lots of childhood memories come from looking at the photo's on here. Thankyou for all the great pictures and if you could keep up the great work by updating if the tower does get taken down as that would be a very sad time for a lot of people. The tower was how i always remember Dunston and the approach off the A1. On the way home after out holiday it would be so sad to sit on the back seat of the car and watch the tower dissapear into the distance.
Thank you for great pictures again.
All the best
Duncan

Dear Ken, I have a few old postcards and a few photos I took  but I cannot do anything clever with them like sending them on line All I can offer is to send you a list of them and if you promise to return them I might send them to you Regards, Jean

Just found the site today, its great. I was born in 1950 and lived in Market Lane for a year then moved to Monkridge Gdns. Went to Dunston Hill School and spent 1 month at Dunston Senior and then moved to Somerset with my parents in 1961. Living in Wiltshire now but have never forgotton my roots, its where my parents were born and brought up and their parents before them. Still have family in the area.

I`ve lived in Dunston all my life - apart from 9 years in the Royal Navy - and your site brought back some wonderful memories of old Dunston. Of a time when everyone seemed to know everyone, unlike now, where I don`t even know my next door neighbours and no-one speaks, such a shame.
My father was secretary of the old Dunston Social Club (the Clav) and the new Clav when it was built, the Steward was Ken and Mary Stubbs or Stobbs.
I remember when the old Clav used to have a yearly outing to the coast. The Double-decker Buses used to be lined all the way up and down Clavering Avenue and the kids would get a small brown envelope with "half-a-crown" inside, and every year on that day it rained. They even changed the day and it still rained.
Happy times, sitting on the beach, soaking wet eating chips but we loved it.....

Yes, Dunston has some great memories.

Has anybody heard of a ' Father Keighty ' (not sure of spelling) who preached in the Methodist church in Dunston.  My dad attended the Methodist church  as a child during 1920's & early 1930's and he used to talk  about his Fire and Brimstone preaching.  If anyone had heard of him I'd love to know.
